Vidya To Set The Ramp On Fire!

August 21st, 2008

Bollywood actress Vidya Balan has been in the news for all her fashion faux pas, but she will soon be donning the exquisite festive collection of designers Prriya and Chintan as she walks the ramp in New York in support of the Nargis Dutt Memorial Foundation.

Designers Prriya and Chintan known for their exquisite and vibrant Indian creations, unveiled their festive collection on Monday.

“I’m a little shy to be walking the ramp otherwise but for this cause, I said yes instantly. They are raising money for the Nargis Dutt Cancer association to buy the equipment and send it across,” says Vidya Balan.

A pleasant evening!

The striking paintings caught your eye on Monday evening — and then in the picture was the vision of Vidya Balan, dressed in an elegant ethnic ensemble and smile to match.

She chatted with designer hosts Prriya and Chintan and admired the emerald green kalidaar outfit with antique gold embellishments and a touch of ruby red, for that’s what she would wear at the Nargis Dutt Memorial Foundation show in New York on August 24.

“It was such a waste of good space,” said Prriya referring to her tiny little administration room which she and partner Chintan have carefully redesigned into a plush salon. With comfy sink-into couches and quaint coffee tables, this space was specially designed to showcase their new line of jewellery. Praises were sounded for guest du jour — Vidya Balan — whose only unstylish statement may we say was turning up right on time and leaving rather early! Modelling the creations were Sheetal Mallar, Jesse Randhawa and Nethra Raghuraman. All said and done, a nice evening.

They were one of the six pairs in SALAAM-E-ISHQ and now, David Dhawan is planning to bring them together in his next outing called HOOK YA CROOK. John Abraham and Vidya Balan, who made a lovely couple [on screen, obviously!], will essay principal roles in David’s new film.

While John has been confirmed for the main lead, Vidya is yet to sign on the dotted line. Besides, a top star [name withheld since the actor hasn't signed the film] will also appear in a pivotal role. To be produced by UTV, the film is expected to roll in mid-November this year.

Vidya’s comic connection with John

August 19th, 2008

After trying her hand at romantic films, Vidya Balan is set to shift gears to the genre of comedy. Currently working on Vishal Bharadwaj’s Ishqiya, she has just signed David Dhawan’s comic caper Hook Ya Crook. What’s more, she’ll be paired opposite her Salaam-E-Ishq co-star, John Abraham.

As you may remember, during the shooting of Salaam-E-Ishq, the duo was linked up courtesy their awesome onscreen chemistry. There were even rumours of tension between Bipasha Basu and John as she couldn’t digest their alleged proximity. Since then, John diplomatically avoided doing films with Vidya. However, when asked to comment on this piece of information, John found the question too ‘stupid’ to react. Now we know why!

Advertisers are piggybanking on blockbuster movies

Multiplex audiences who went to watch Shahid Kapoor-Vidya Balan starrer Kismat Konnection last month, were also the first ones to catch a glimpse of another much-awaited film Hello.

Directed by Atul Agnihotri, Hello is an adaptation of author Chetan Bhagat’s popular novel One Night@ the Call Centre.

The 88-second teaser promo from the film screened during the intermission was specially-made and was made to coincide with Kismat Konnection’s release.

“My target audience was right there in the auditorium,” Agnihotri said. “It was a great way to test the look of the film, which releases in October. Trade pundits had predicted Kismat Konnection to be a popular choice amongst young cinegoers.”

August 18th, 2008

The ‘hot’ couple of the tinsel town, Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor are selling like ‘hot’ cakes in the brand endorsement market. After signing the famous Head & Shoulders shampoo ad, they have bagged the coveted Airtel advertisement.

Earlier, Vidya Balan and Madhavan sizzled in the Airtel ad with their onscreen chemistry and now our ‘Chote Nawab’ and ‘Bebo’ will be seen sharing sweet-nothings onscreen.

According to a source, “Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor are the hottest couple when it comes to brand endorsements. They’ve been paid a whopping amount to come together for these two brands. They will shoot for the Head & Shoulders ad soon.”

Vidya Balan wraped up in a bedsheet

Put on the war paint, add those finishing touches and Vidya Balan is ready to strike a pose. After receiving flak for her choice of wardrobe, the actress decided to dress down for a cover photo-shoot for the international men’s magazine FHM.

The shoot covered a versatile Vidya attempting to look sensuous, coy and sportily sexy!

“I think what we shot for the cover was really very interesting especially where we used sheets and all and it’s just that there is a great sensuality to it. I always think that minimal make-up and no fuss hair takes away from everything and it’s all about the eyes,” she said.

Vidya Balan makes a (Air)telling point

August 16th, 2008

It is ironical that Vidya Balan’s fine histrionic abilities are more evident in the currently airing Airtel TV commercial than they have been in all her past films since Parineeta, with the possible exception of Bhool Bhulaiyaa.

It is ironical that Vidya Balan’s fine histrionic abilities are more evident in the currently airing Airtel TV commercial than they have been in all her past films since Parineeta, with the possible exception of Bhool Bhulaiyaa.

In the commercial, both Vidya and talented south star Madhavan make their point whispering endearments and sweet nothings that have nothing to do with the product they are selling, not yelling Thoda wish karo, dish karo like a crazed maniac.
