Vidya Balan is trying hard to learn Urdu. And, we hear, her fellow Muslim actors can’t stop laughing at her attempt.

The actors in question are Naseeruddin Shah and Arshad Warsi, who are Vidya’s co-actors in Ishqya. Since Vidya is playing a Muslim woman in Ishqya, director Abhishek Choubey hired an Urdu tutor from Uttar Pradesh. And though the tutor was supposed to teach her only the dialogues, it turned out Vidya wanted to learn the language instead. And we hear Vidya was so impressed by the language that she has started using Urdu words in her conversations.

Vidya has also started to apply Urdu phonetics in dialouges where they don’t belong. This is what made Naseer and Arshad pull a prank on her, says the actress.

“I began to pronounce ordinary Hindi words the Urdu way, thanks to Naseer and Arshad, who encouraged me to over-do my Urdu by misguiding my pronunciation,” says the actress.

Vidya says she saw through the ruse when she heard the duo cracking jokes on her Urdu behind her back.

But what is impressive is that, we learnt Vidya has gone into the skin of the character and is looking very realistic while playing it.

The actress, meanwhile, is also working on Nikhil Advani’s Chand Bhai opposite Akshay Kumar. Advani’s Chand Bhai is a raw realistic song-less film on juvenile delinquency.

“It’s nothing like the highflying glam-wham stuff that one expects from Nikhil after Chandni Chowk to China. Chand Bhai is a stark, very real kind of cinema,” says the actress.

Vidya also admits Chand Bhai doesn’t feature her in the central role. “The film revolves around the delinquent boy’s character. But I’m very happy to be part of a film that addresses an important social issue.”

After the debacle of Chandni Chowk To China, everyone has come down really hard on director Nikhil Advani. The fact that Nikhil’s earlier film Salaam-e-Ishq was a big dud didn’t help his cause either.

While Nikhil seems to have taken things in his stride, the media and gossip-mongers don’t seem to stop with their Nikhil-bashing. Recently, there has been a lot of talk doing the rounds that Nikhil’s forthcoming directorial venture Chand Bhai, supposedly starring Akshaye Khanna and Vidya Balan, has been shelved.

We decided to check with Nikhil if there is any truth to this story or whether it is just a figment of somebody’s imagination. “No there is no truth to this story whatsoever. Chand Bhai is very much on. It’s just that we have pushed the starting of the film to somewhere around July as a very close family friend has taken ill. You will hear an announcement on the status of the film very soon,” says Nikhil.

Well, we hope, at least this clarification from Nikhil would put all rumours to rest.

Vidya Balan who plays a Muslim woman in a forthcoming film needed to brush up her Urdu. She got the chance during the shooting of Ishqya when the man hired to tutor her for her Uttar Pradeshi dialect turned out to be an Urdu expert.

“I immediately asked him to become my Urdu teacher. Little did I know what I was getting into. My co-stars Naseer and Arshad decided to pull a prank on me.”

So enamored was Vidya of getting the Urdu diction right that she began to apply the Urdu phonetics even where they didn’t belong. “I began to pronounce ordinary Hindi words in the Urdu way, thanks to Naseer and Arshad who encouraged me to over-do my Urdu by misguiding my pronunciation.”

Vidya only saw through the ruse when she saw the duo cracking up with amusement behind her back.

Vidya was in Panchgani shooting non-stop . “I only came home for one day during Diwali. Otherwise even for my mother’s birthday in November I had to call her over to Panchgani. I’ve completely fallen in love with the place. In fact for my birthday we all went back to Panchgani.”

Vidya has just given the nod to Nikhil(Chandni Chowk To China) Advani’s next film which would surprise many.

Advani’s Chand Bhai is a raw realistic song less film on juvenile delinquency.

Says Vidya, “It’s nothing like the high-flying glam-wham stuff that one expects from Nikhil after Chandni Chowk. Chand Bhai is a stark very real kind of drama. And I get to co-star with a very talented actor Akshaye Khanna with whom I was in Nikhil’s Salaam-e-Ishq though we had just one passing shot together.”

Vidya gladly admits Chand Bhai doesn’t feature her in the central role. “The film revolves around the delinquent boy’s character. But I’m very happy to be part of a film that addresses itself an important social issue.
