No, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is not getting competition with her husband! However, buzz is that the two actresses have been roped in to play wives to Junior Bachchan in two upcoming films.

Vidya Balan, who has been on a guest starring spree, has been roped in to play Abhishek’s better half in Dum Maaro Dum. Earlier, the actress had signed up for a cameo in ‘Thank You’, playing Akshay Kumar’s wife.

This is not the first time that the actress has been seen opposite Abhishek Bachchan. The duo were seen together in ‘Paa’, where they played parents to Amitabh Bachchan.

Kangna Ranaut, on the other hand has taken up a role opposite Bachchan Junior in RGV’s next, Department.

The film, which has just been announced, revolves around three cops and the extra-constitutional activities they engage in to maintain a civil society.

Vidya Balan, besides being a natural beauty, is also known for her associations with social causes. After having endorsed many leading products, Vidya has now been signed as brand ambassador of WWF’s ‘World Earth Hour 2011′, something which Abhishek Bachchan did last year. This year, the World Earth Hour is scheduled to take place on Saturday March 26 between 8.30 pm and 9.30 pm.

After the success of Paa, Abhishek Bachchan and Vidya Balan will share screen time together again.

Ad filmmaker Abban Deohans has signed them for a film tentatively titled Hum Rahey Naa Hum. The movie is about modern-day relationships.

Abban’s husband, famed cinematographer Kiran Deohans, is an executive producer on Abhishek starrer film Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey. Abban met Abhisek on the sets of this film while they were shooting their film in Goa in January. She narrated the script to him and he loved it.

Abban knows Vidya since her modelling days. Abban adds, “I have shot many ads with Vidya, but not with Abhishek. So recently while I was shooting an ad with her, I narrated this script to her and that’s how she came on board.”

Vidya and Abhishek were always Abban’s first choice. She said, “Vidya is a very good actress with a rare vulnerability, while Abhishek has a persona that can pull off modern and western roles.”

We hear Vidya has been approached to play a cameo opposite Abhishek in the film.

Vidya’s performance and chemistry with Abhi in Paa must have influenced Sippy’s decision to rope her in the film.

The cameo required a lady with very Indian looks and Vidya fitted the bill perfectly. Moreover, the actress has liked her role, though small, in the film that’s already sparked a lot of curiosity because of its trippy title and an interesting cast ensemble.

After the release of Paa, several reports talked of how fond Vidya Balan had become of Abhishek Bachchan. Vidya, who plays Amitabh Bachchan’s mother in the film, was extremely impressed by Abhishek’s caring demeanor towards his father during the shooting of the film.

So moved was the actress that she confessed her desire to have a son like Abhishek in real life. “I would prefer a son like Abhishek,” she had categorically said.

While that may or may not happen, Vidya’s chemistry with Abhishek in Paa did wonders for the audience, which wants to see them together on screen again.

The latest on that front is that Rohan Sippy’s forthcoming Dum Maro Dum, will feature the actress in a long cameo role with Abhishek Bachchan.

When asked if a special cameo role is being created for Vidya in Rohan’s film, a source from the unit says, “Created wouldn’t be the right term to use. There was a role for which Rohan was looking for an Indian face.”

Elaborating on why Vidya was chosen to play this cameo role, our source says, “Rohan has watched Paa and he quite liked the chemistry between Abhishek and Vidya. He strongly felt that the two of them looked very good together on screen.”

Apparently, Rohan approached Vidya recently, who liked the cameo role as well. She has agreed to do the film. The modalities are now being worked out. Vidya will soon join the cast of Dum Maro Dum.
