She turned scriptwriter with Ranbir Kapoor-Priyanka Chopra starrer Anjaana-Anjaani and now Almost Single author Advaita Kala is looking forward to her next film Kahaani which will see Vidya Balan playing the central protagonist.

Kala promises that Kahaani, being directed by Sujoy Ghosh of Aladin fame, will see a completely new avatar of Vidya, who is known for her performance oriented roles in films like Pareenita, Paa and Ishqiya.

The writer says she developed the character keeping Vidya in mind and always knew that the actress will do the role. The film is currently being shot in Kolkata and will release sometime next year.

“It is a very different film. I would say Vidya is the hero of the movie. It is a very difficult role and from the very beginning Sujoy and I knew that Vidya will do it even before approaching her. And true to our belief once we told her the story she agreed immediately,” Kala told PTI.

Though Kala is reluctant to talk about the movie, reports suggest that Vidya plays a pregnant woman who has to fight her way to survive in an alien environment.

Sidharth Anand, the director of Anjaana-Anjaani read Kala’s debut novel and approached her to write the script. “It sort of happened for me. He told me the idea and we developed it into a story about these two young people,” she says.

And before she finished, Jhankar Beats director Sujoy wanted her to write the script of Kahaani.

“We were talking about doing something together and he told me this idea and before I knew the story had gripped me. Somehow this woman’s story became very important to tell,” says Kala.

Aks her about converting her novel Almost Single about a singleton fighting her way to life and persistent questions about marriage, Kala says she was approached for rights but she declined.

“When I started writing it, I did not even know that it will be a novel. I wrote almost single when I had taken a break in my career and was really annoyed with the ways single women are treated. I was approached for a movie adaptation but I think somethings are better left as a novel,” says Kala.

“A lot needs to change in Hindi movie scenario. Female oriented subjects are not given the kind of platform they deserve and I want to stay true to the spirit of the book,” she says.

Even though, Kala is enjoying her stint in scriptwriting, she is not making plans for future. “I am enjoying my time in Bollywood but who knows what life has in offer. It keeps changing. I will continue writing but I don’t want to lock myself in one form of expression,” she adds.

After the debacle of his last venture Aladin, director Sujoy Ghosh is all set with his next venture titled Kahani. Unit sources inform that unlike his earlier films Jhankaar Beats and Home Delivery, this film is a woman oriented subject. It will be an issue based film.
As for the lead role, Sujoy Ghosh has already signed Vidya Balan. As the film is a woman oriented subject, “Sujoy was keen to have an actress who would do justice to the role and hence he chose Vidya Balan for the lead,” says our source.
The film is based in Kolkata and is expected to go on floors in Ocotber this year. Ghosh’s entire pre-production team is in Kolkata preparing for the film. However, everyone is very tightlipped about the entire project. “Sujoy has always been very hush hush about his movies. He does not like to talk about the film till he is completely satisfied with the shoot,” said the source.

It seems Sujoy Ghosh’s dream of working with Vidya Balan will soon be realised. The writer-producer-director has always expressed a desire to work with the actress as he rates her as one of the most talented in the industry. Though the debacle of his last film Aladin did dampen his spirit, Sujoy busied himself with writing a script, this time with Vidya in mind. The actress, who is very choosy about her films, was impressed with Sujoy’s work and gave him the nod. The film is a thriller and shooting will begin in September in Kolkata. While Sujoy does not want to comment more on the film till everything is in place, he did say that the project is unconventional. Vidya Balan confirmed that she is doing the film as she really liked the script, but did not want to comment further. The actress, who has almost completed the shooting of No One Killed Jessica, in which she plays Jessica’s Lal’s sister Sabrina, has also been approached by Ekta Kapoor to star in a film based on the life of southern siren Silk Smitha, to be directed by Milan Luthria. “It’s true that I have been approached with the project, but I am still waiting for the complete story before I decide,” said Vidya.

original_vidya-balan_465d20a29fe77Director Sujoy Ghosh who is currently awaiting the release of his SFX-heavy fantasy flick ‘Aladin’ is already busy in signing pretty Vidya Balan for his next film. In fact, Ghosh has already narrated the script to the actress who has accepted the offer. Interestingly, Ghosh’ next is going to be an out-and-out romantic movie . This will be unlike his current ‘Aladin’. Speaking about his next movie, Ghosh says that the role is made for Vidya Balan only. In the same context he adds, ” I think she is an actress par excellence and one who can take any character a few notches higher – a quality all directors look for in their actors.”

Ghosh is just waiting with baited breath for the response to his current movie titled ‘Aladin’ before starting work on his next flick. The director is yet to show the final script to Vidya who has been incidentally in the news these days for her eye-catching roles in Vishal Bhardwaj’s ‘Ishquiyan’ and R. Balki’s ‘Pa’. Significantly, most of the Bollywood directors have been favoring Vidya Balan more than any other actress as they feel that Vidya is not only flexible but also ready to experiment with different roles, unlike her other senior colleagues.
