I am not ready for marriage: Vidya

December 7th, 2009

By Jilawatan

ggShe loves children and the prospect of motherhood, but Vidya Balan insists she’s not ready for marriage.

I want to get married first, but I’m not ready yet because I still haven’t found that someone,” says Vidya. However, the actress admits that shooting for Paa has taught her some things about herself. “At first, I was sceptical about taking up this role because kids are usually wary around me. I was also a bit apprehensive about playing a mother to a 13-year-old. But my brother-in-law told me that I’d never get the opportunity to act in a film like this again. So, I took it up. Once I did the film, my maternal instincts were awakened,” explains Vidya.

Once again, Vidya has had to deal with reports about the sizzling on-screen chemistry she shares with her co-stars. This time, it’s Abhishek Bachchan in Paa and Arshad Warsi in Ishqiya. “When I’m doing a scene, the only thing on my mind is how I can do justice to the role. And I may have put so much life into the scenes that people start believing that there’s something brewing between my co-stars and me,” she says.

Then, of course, there are the comments about her dress sense, which has been called everything from “atrocious” to “pitiable”. But she says things have changed. “For my next film, I’m wearing outfits designed by Sabyasachi Mukherjee, who understands my personality. He dresses a character and this is the reason I could carry off his clothes comfortably,” says Vidya.

We also hear that the actress has a Kollywood connection in National Award-winning Priya Mani. The two are reportedly distant cousins. “I’ve never met her, but I got to know that she’s an actress and I’ll soon watch her films,” she says. Vidya herself would have been a southern star, but things didn’t work out. “I wanted to do south films, but the films either got shelved or I wasn’t selected for them. I still hope to do a south film, but only one that has a strong script,” she wraps up.

There is a new fad in Bollywood among the leading ladies it seems. First, Katrina Kaif gave up her sweet girl next-door image in De Dana Dan to do a saree-clad, rain drenched enticing act.

Vidya Balan’s Ishqiya is too abusive to be shown

vidya-balan2Vidya Balan`s Ishqiya is too abusive to be shown Debutant director Abhishek Chaubey’s film, Ishqiya, has to be re-shot as the language of the film is too abusive. This is after a focus group told the team to re-edit the film. The producers, Shemaroo, have even asked Vishal Bhardwaj (who is Abhishek’s mentor) to be present when the film is being edited.

Starring Arshad Warsi, Vidya Balan and Naseeruddin Shah, the film made some of the women in the audience uncomfortable.

It is about two bandits who fall in love with a widow while on the run and the consequences that arise out of the situation. The film’s theatrical trailer is out but other trailers will be out later. The film’s release date has apparently been shifted to mid-2010 but the film’s publicist assures it is still January 22nd, 2010.

Focus groups are a certain audience group that watches the film and gives their opinion on it. If they feel that there are some things that could be changed about the film, the changes are made. This is a common phenomenon in Hollywood but has only just entered Bollywood.

Vidya Balan mouths vulgar gaaliyaan

vidya-balan-shares-her-experience-on-sets-of-paa-264x300Think of Vidya Balan and the first thing that comes to mind is the picture of this demure, elegant, well-behaved, eloquent woman who would never use foul language for anyone, even for foes. And now imagine her discomfort when she had to mouth the choicest of desi expletives for her role of a rural girl in the upcoming movie Ishqiya.

“Oh! I was very apprehensive while using those slangs. I have never used them in my real life but I had to because the script demanded. When you will see this movie, you will understand that it is justified. The movie belongs to a certain terrain where slangs are part of their lingo,” Vidya is quoted to have said in an interview.

‘Ishqiya’ tells the story of two thugs, an uncle nephew duo (played by Naseeruddin Shah and Arshad Warsi) on the run. They flee to a village in eastern Uttar Pradesh where they take shelter in the house of a clever village belle, played by Vidya Balan.

Vidya’s character in the film is nobody’s fool. She’s a fiery gal who utters gaaliyaan with fluency. However, mouthing those abuses was so embarrassing for Vidya that she did not even rehearse her dialogues on the sets.

“I never rehearsed on the sets as I used to feel awkward. So I used to come prepared on the sets and once the director used to say action, I used to forget everything and everyone,” Vidya said.

In case you’re wondering what expletives Vidya has used in the film, she’s uttered the popular gaaliyaan that begins with ‘Ch…’ and ‘G…’.

Speaking more about her role, Vidya said: “As I am playing a rural girl, my look is very much deglamourised so that I look like my character Krishna. It is an interesting role with many shades.”

‘Ishqiya’ is directed by first time director Abhishek Chaubey and produced by Vishal Bharadwaj. Contrary to rumours, the film is not being re-shot.

Intimate romantic scenes can be difficult to shoot for, especially if your co-star is a good friend.

The same happened to Vidya Balan and Arshad Warsi, who became good friend on the sets of Ishqiya!
A unit source recalled, “Vidya and Arshad are good friends and the two had to do a romantic scene that day. While Arshad was all game, Vidya just could not stop laughing. The moment the director would say action, Vidya would end up laughing. She just could not look into Arshad’s eyes and say the romantic lines.” The actress somehow managed to calm herself and gave the shot. Wonder if the troubled director found it as funny?

Vidya steams up the screen

By Jilawatan

vidya-balan_195Vidya Balan, always game to take on challenging roles that require unconventional approaches by mainstream actresses, is all set to do it again in the forthcoming Ishqiya, being made by Vishal Bhardwaj of Omkara fame.

Having succeeded in getting Kareena Kapoor to play a negative role in Omkara, Vishal is doing the same with Vidya.

She plays a village belle with darker shades to her role, swearing in colourful Hindi and featuring in steamy scenes with co-star Arshad Warsi, including a passionate on-screen kiss.

Vidya had earlier done a kissing scene with Madhavan in the film Guru, and has gone on record as saying she would not mind doing a kissing scene if it was critical to the plot of the story.

Arshad called Vidya ‘a true professional’ after their steamy scene was filmed.

Sources from the sets inform us that Vidya worked hard on her looks and to acquire the vernacular diction. She has brushed up her acting skills too to match up with the stalwart Naseeruddin Shah and her chemistry with Arshad Warsi is also crackling. Besides films, Vidya is also endorsing a skin care product by Dabur.

Vidya Balan is compensating for lack of skin show by smooching on screen. She kissed Rishi madhavan passionately in Guru, and now, in her upcoming film Ishqiya she has a scene with Arshad Warsi.

The actress who is desperate for a hit has gone the whole hog in this Vishal Bharadwaj film. She is not only kissing and exposing herself, Vidya has also done a negative character in the film.

Indeed a film to watch out for multiple reasons!
