Vidya’s got a new nickname

Vidya Balan has got a new nickname these days. Everyone is referring to the actress as Baby Balan — thanks to the slew of mommy roles she has been doing of late, the most recent one being in Sujoy Ghosh’s Kahaani.

Earlier too she played a mother in Sajid Khan’s Heyy Baby and Balki’s Paa. Now for Sujoy’s film, Vidya has been sporting a baby bump and looking quite comfortable with it. Needless to say, the director is only too pleased with his actress. “It’s a story of a woman who is six months pregnant and traces her journey from thereon. I had written the script keeping Vidya in mind. I wouldn’t have made the film without her. For me she’s a perfectionist who has beautifully brought the character alive,” said the director.
Guess Baby Balan is doing her director proud!

Vidya Balan Carries A 45 Kg Boy!

November 9th, 2009

vidya_balan2A playful scene involving mother and child turned out to be not so playful for Vidya Balan. A source close to Vidya informed, “Vidya had to shoot a scene with so-and-so who plays the child Amitabh Bachchan in Pa. The scene required Vidya to carry him on her shoulders.” But there was a hitch. The boy’s weight was as good as Vidya’s.

The source continues, “Vidya weighs 45 kgs and so did the plump boy. Vidya carried him on her shoulders nevertheless. The scene was being canned. And suddenly there was this loud thud. Vidya had lost balance and fallen on the ground along with the boy.”

Vidya got badly injured while doing the shot. “Balki told Vidya that he could postpone the shoot. But Vidya continued to shoot and the scene was canned successfully in the second take,” concludes our source.

VIDYA’S NO TO NEUTRAL CLOTHING

September 20th, 2009

By Jilawatan

gossip1002a_inside1Vidya Balan who has been criticised for her dress sense has now moved away from her traditional Indian look in Balki’s ‘Paa’. She is playing two distinctive characters in the movie; as a trendy college girl and wife to Abhishek Bachchan and also a mother. However, she likes Indian fabrics and believes that they offer so much. She also likes to work with designer Sabyasachi Chakraborty . She is confident that only her designer can grasp the character’s sensibilities and reflect this in the way she dresses. Vidya dresses herself in ‘Paa’ as a student studying abroad. So, she is seen in boho-chic-dresses made from Indian fabrics but in western style – long jackets, gowns and skirts!

As said earlier, she doesn’t like to dress up in neutral style and likes femininie clothes. European dresses are not a taboo though. But, she loves the Anarkali style i.e. churidar-kurtas. Her western look in ‘Paa’ is fun and casually thrown together stuff – somewhat like she is in real life. For her second look in ‘Paa’ Vidya goes more traditional. She says her designer has given her plain cotton sarees from various sections of India with simple bleak borders and nice interesting blouses that give her a serious and sober look.

paa310809_1Ad Filmmaker Balki, far-famed for striking spectacularly with unique themes (Cheeni Kum – a perfect illustration) is back in business.  This time with a heart-wrenching conceptualization ‘PAA’ that centers on a child affected with ‘Progeria’ aka ‘Hutchinson – Gilford Progeria Syndrome’.

Starring Amitabh Bacchan, Abhishek Bacchan and Vidhya Balan in lead roles, the ‘First Look’ promos and story were revealed recently. Much along popped up continuous buzzes ‘PAA’ is inspired from Hollywood’s ‘Curious Case of Benjamin Button’. However, the filmmaker denied them strongly terming it to be a rumor.

The film is about a couple who has a child suffering from ‘Progeria’ syndrome where the child ages extremely at extreme speed. Amitabh Bacchan enacts this special child of Abhishek-Vidhya Balan. As Big B had to be spotted with different looks, two-time Oscar winner, Stephen Dupuis has been roped in for the unique make over, which nearly takes 4-5hrs to achieve that look everyday.

Chenab Gandhi, a film produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, was to go on floors in April 2009. While the first schedule got pushed to September 2009 talks have it that the film may start rolling only in February 2010.

Actress Vidya Balan and actor Amitabh Bachchan who are currently shooting for Balki’s Paa will be seen together once again in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Chenab Gandhi, to be directed by Vibhu Puri. The film based on the life of Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan (played by Amitabh Bachchan) was to go on floors in April 2009. But Bhansali’s search for his ‘other hero’ caused a change in schedule.

Initially, Harman Baweja was to play an important part in the movie. But later there were reports that Bhansali settled for John Abraham and had to re-work schedules and dates. But it still wasn’t that easy. While media had it that actress Bipasha Basu wasn’t too keen to have John work with Vidya (the two were linked while shooting Salaam-e-Ishq), John rubbished the rumours and claimed that he wasn’t offered Chenab Gandhi in the first place. He admitted that he was in talks with Sanjay Leela Bhansali but that was for another project and not Chenab Gandhi.

Finally, Rajeev Khandelwal was roped in to play the ‘other hero’. But fortunately or unfortunately, the Sach Ka Saamna phenomenon happened to Rajeev Khandelwal, because of whom, sources say, the film will be further pushed and may go on floors only in February 2010 now. However, a birdie from the production house claims, “The last show of Sach Ka Saamna maybe September 26, but nothing is confirmed yet.” So Bhansali finds himself in date trouble all over again, but this is one sach that he’ll just have to face! By Jilawatan

vidya-balanAfter being criticised for her figure, Vidya Balan has finally managed to get into shape.

And if you think that the actress has gone through a lot of killer exercises, then you’re mistaken. In fact, Vidya chose a very unique way to lose those extra kilos. She simply went on a holiday to Goa, and returned slimmer. “I indulged in adventure,” she told us.

Now what kind of adventure is she talking about? The naughty types, eh? “No, the thrilling types — you know para-sailing and the likes,” she said. Also, whilst shooting in Kuala Lampur for Balki’s Paa, the actress used to climb up the Petronas Towers and down again. So, all that the lady has been saying these days is: Who needs a gym?

VIDYA Balan calls Paa, directed by Cheeni Kum‘s R Balki, her dream project.

She says, “Working on this film is like a dream come true. Both Amitabhji (Bachchan) and Abhishek (Bachchan) are so chilled out. They didn’t ever make me feel I was working with them for the first time. We had a great time on the sets.”

The actress says Amitabh Bachchan is true to his nickname, Paa. She says, “Amitabhji is seriously like (a) Paa! The way he teaches demonstrates this. He has so much patience. He is the father of our industry.”

About the film, she says, “The amazing thing about Paa is that Abhishek Bachchan plays the role of the father while Amitabh Bachchan plays the son. My character is the surprise package of the film. The film’s last shooting schedule is still pending; there are a few songs and scenes left. Hopefully, Paa will release by the end of this year. I’m sure it will be a hit with audiences.”

What traits do Amitabh Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan share? “Well,” she says, “they are father and son! Both are very easy to work with and very cooperative. Of course, Abhishek is a comic. Working with the both of them was a nice experience.”
