Vidya Balan has got a new nickname these days. Everyone is referring to the actress as Baby Balan — thanks to the slew of mommy roles she has been doing of late, the most recent one being in Sujoy Ghosh’s Kahaani.
Earlier too she played a mother in Sajid Khan’s Heyy Baby and Balki’s Paa. Now for Sujoy’s film, Vidya has been sporting a baby bump and looking quite comfortable with it. Needless to say, the director is only too pleased with his actress. “It’s a story of a woman who is six months pregnant and traces her journey from thereon. I had written the script keeping Vidya in mind. I wouldn’t have made the film without her. For me she’s a perfectionist who has beautifully brought the character alive,” said the director.
Guess Baby Balan is doing her director proud!

Vidya Balan will be soon seen with a baby bump in a forthcoming film, ‘Kahaani’. The film directed by Sujoy Ghosh has Vidya Balan playing the role of a pregnant woman. The most interesting part is that Vidya will be seen with the bump not just in a scene or two but throughout the film. The film is about a journey of a lady who is six months pregnant and who reaches Kolkata searching for her husband. Known to be a perfectionist, Vidya is known to live the character she plays on screen. So sporting a baby bump and being comfortable with the look is all a part of the professional regime that the actress follows. She has earlier played mother to a baby in Sajid Khan’s ‘Heyy Baby’.
Director Sujoy Ghosh, is full of praises for the gifted actress for carrying off the role so effortlessly. He said that he had written the script with Vidya in mind and none other than Vidya could have portrayed the character so well. “It’s the story of a woman who’s six months pregnant and her journey. I had written the script keeping Vidya in mind. I wouldn’t have made the film without her. For me she’s a perfectionist who has beautifully brought the character alive,” said the director.
Vidya Balan has another interesting film coming up, ‘No one Killed Jessica’, based on the real life killing of Jessica Lal, where she plays a lawyer and co-stars with Rani Mukerji. The beautiful actress made her debut in Bollywood with the film ‘Parineeta’ by Vidhu Vinod Chopra. She shot into limelight with her maiden performance and made everyone take note of her. There has been no looking back ever since.

Aishwarya Rai was seen with a baby bump in ‘Guru’; Preity Zinta shot an entire song with her baby bump in ‘Salaam Namaste’ but in both the cases their pregnancy bump lasted only a few scenes.
However, actress Vidya Balan shall be portraying the character of a woman who is 6 months pregnant in her next Sujoy Ghosh film ‘Kahaani’. And she won’t be carrying her baby bump merely for a scene or two but she shall be pregnant throughout the length of the movie.
In the movie Vidya plays a married woman whose hubby leaves London and comes to India for a job. However, after he goes missing, Vidya comes to Kolkata to hunt her husband down. And Vidya shall be doing her husband-hunt in her pregnancy period.
As the director Sujoy Ghosh puts it, a pregnant woman isn’t a Batman or a Superman and Vidya’s character shall be exploring the vulnerability of the feminine side. Sujoy has confirmed the news and has hailed Vidya as a perfectionist. He also cites that he had penned the role keeping Vidya in mind and wouldn’t have made the film if Vidya had rejected his offer.
But this is not the first time that Vidya shall be showing the nascent side of her motherhood. She played a mother in ‘Heyy Baby’ and was the Maa of Amitabh Bachchan in Paa.

Her intense portrayals may have won her accolades and awards, but it’s comedy that actor Vidya Balan’s heart is set on. She had got a taste of it with Heyy Baby and now the actor is hoping to do some more light-hearted comedies.
“I’d love to do a Hrishikesh Mukherjee kind of a family comedy. His Golmal is my all-time favourite. But I equally enjoy David Dhawan kind of comedies too. I have been only doing such intense roles of late that comedy would be a pleasant change,” says the actor.
So, do the serious roles drain her of energy? “I think an actor learns to disassociate with the roles off screen, with each experience, and yet give it their all when required on screen. I’m learning to do that and I think that makes it less taxing. But yes, some scenes wear me down, because at some point I could imagine what people in real life would have gone through,” explains Vidya.
Are film-makers wary of approaching her for comedy? “Maybe. But the fact is that I’m open to doing comedies. Itis something that comes very naturally to me and I enjoy it a lot too,” says the actor, who’s currently shooting for Sujoy Ghosh’s Kahani in Kolkata.
Clarifying that the film’s not a remake of Kill Bill, she says, “Kahani… is a thriller, but it’s no Kill Bill.”

Vidya Balan has drawn a lot of flak for her clothes. But the Heyy Baby actress has put all those disasters behind her and moved on. For R.Balki’s film, Paa, Balan’s clothes have been designed by none other than designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee, who is known for his ethnic collection.
Balan disclosed, “I play a very middle class girl in Paa and I am married to Abhishek Bachchan. Mr.Bachchan plays our son. The role did not require any dramatic designing. Sabyasachi has designed my clothes in the film.”
Balan will be seen in very simple cotton sarees. The only glamour quotient comes from the styling of her blouses. Mukherjee has experimented a lot with the cuts of the blouses, which makes the necessary fashion statement.
Abhishek is mostly wearing a white kurta pyjama throughout the film and in keeping with the design of the film, Balan will be seen in sarees. Balan, who has lost oodles of weight, according to a unit hand, compliments the look and has won a lot of praise for her efforts.
Balan has always looked best in traditional outfits. Post the backlash of her wardrobe disasters, Balan has stuck to mostly sarees and salwar churidars for any public function. And now with Mukherjee adding that extra touch, Balan can perhaps put all those nasty comments behind her.
