VIDYA Balan calls Paa, directed by Cheeni Kum‘s R Balki, her dream project.

She says, “Working on this film is like a dream come true. Both Amitabhji (Bachchan) and Abhishek (Bachchan) are so chilled out. They didn’t ever make me feel I was working with them for the first time. We had a great time on the sets.”

The actress says Amitabh Bachchan is true to his nickname, Paa. She says, “Amitabhji is seriously like (a) Paa! The way he teaches demonstrates this. He has so much patience. He is the father of our industry.”

About the film, she says, “The amazing thing about Paa is that Abhishek Bachchan plays the role of the father while Amitabh Bachchan plays the son. My character is the surprise package of the film. The film’s last shooting schedule is still pending; there are a few songs and scenes left. Hopefully, Paa will release by the end of this year. I’m sure it will be a hit with audiences.”

What traits do Amitabh Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan share? “Well,” she says, “they are father and son! Both are very easy to work with and very cooperative. Of course, Abhishek is a comic. Working with the both of them was a nice experience.”

Paa is Amitabh Bachchan’s home production from AB Corporation Ltd.

Vidya Balan takes acting lessons from Naseeruddin Shah

November 14th, 2008

Bollywood actress Vidya Balan is doing every bit that she can to deliver her best in Vishal Bharadwaj’s Ishqiya. For this, she even joined a 10-day workshop with her co-star Naseeruddin Shah.

“The character that Vidya is playing in Ishqiya is very complex and difficult to enact. Vidya thought that the way to emote the character on screen was best learnt from Naseeruddin Shah because the veteran actor is a master at it,” a source close to the actress said.

“She was ecstatic to be discussing cinema with the master himself. Though they ended up discussing the film and cinema at length instead of doing a serious workshop, Vidya treasures the experience and is looking forward to working with the actor in the film,” added the source.

Vidya, who stars opposite Arshad Warsi in the film, is not only taking lessons from Naseer but also also underwent classes to speak the typical Uttar Pradesh dialect during those 10 days.

“Vidya was just not familiar with the native that kind of Hindi. She mastered it by getting a teacher,” said the source.

Vidya preparing hard for ‘Ishkiyaan’

October 2nd, 2008

Vidya Balan has indeed got a winner in her hands in the film ‘Ishkiyaan’ but in spite of her prowess in acting, it is not a cakewalk when it comes to acting in a creative venture of Vishal Bharadwaj.

She now has the additional responsibility of speaking Hindi in a pure U.P dialect as the film’s story is set in a small town in the state.

The film will hit the floors in October and by then the actress has to learn the dialogues in the way the makers want her to speak.

A language tutor has been assigned to teach Vidya the local dialect used in the eastern parts of Uttar Pradesh.

‘Ishkiyaan’ produced by Vishal Bharadwaj and directed by his assistant director Abhishek Chaubey is an eagerly awaited movie because of the natural expectations of it being a film co-written by the versatile Vishal, a great team of lead male actors in Nasseruddin Shah and Arshad Warsi and also because Vidya Balan plays a role with negative shades for the first time.

The story revolves on the mission of the character played by the leading lady to fool both the characters of Naseer and his nephew played by Arshad simultaneously for a purpose which will be revealed when the film hits the screens.

Vidya Balan Learning UP Dialect for her Next Film “Ishkiyaan”

September 28th, 2008

For the forthcoming film Ishkiyaan, Bollywood actress Vidya Balan is now learning a UP dialect. Directed by Abhishek Chaubey, the Vishal Bharadwaj production features Naseeruddin Shah alongside Arshad Warsi and Vidya Balan. The scrip is written by Vishal and Abhishek and the film features the same language that is heard in Omkara, directed by Vishal.

A unit source informs, “Vishal and Abhishek have written the script of Ishkiyaan. The film has the same lingo that one hears in Vishal’s Omkara. When Vishal narrated the script to Vidya, she was apprehensive about her ability to deliver the dialogues fluently in this dialect. Being a South Indian, she was not very comfortable with the rural dialect. Though Vidya is fluent in Hindi, she insisted on learning the language before taking on the role.”

It seems pretty good that Vidya is taking professional training before turning to camera. With her fluency in Hindi, the actress could have gone to deliver the dialogues without taking any lesion on the dialect. However, known as a perfectionist, Vidya Balan, went through the classes on that dialect to deliver the perfect diction in the movie.

The actress said that Ishkiyaan emerges with an unusual concept and she is happy to share screen space with Naseeruddin Shah in the movie. She portrays the character that fools her uncle and her nephew, portrayed by Naseeruddin Shah and Arshad Warsi respectively.
