Directing Vidya Balan

Is one of the things Ashley Rebello intends to do in the near future. So what if others of his ilk are yet to begin work on film projects they were to take up?

Manish Malhotra and Vikram Phadnis’s directorial ventures are still up in the air, but that hasn’t deterred Ashley Rebello from wanting to make his film. After working with Vidya Balan for over a year and a half on product endorsements, Ashley plans to direct her in a film in the near future. Calling it an extension of his creative personality, he’s quite kicked about filmmaking.

About working with Vidya, he notes, “I have known her over a year now. We share a great work relationship. I style her for all her product launches and endorsements. I design all the clothes that she wears on hoardings and banners and in commercials. In fact, we are currently working on the launch of a new hair product.”

Ashley adds, “I want to do many more things than simply design clothes. One of them is making a film with Vidya. I think it’s the next natural step for me in terms of creative fulfillment.” Not bothered by the failures to launch their film by others from his fraternity, he says, “I am not really affected by any one else. I feel one should want it more than anything in the world and the Universe will manifest it for you.”

He feels that Balan has left her fashion faux pas days behind. He notes, “I think Vidya looks stunning in earthy tones like mehendi, brown and such, rather than loud colors. Her personality really comes across in these shades and she’s also confident enough to carry them with ease. It’s important for her to know what she wants to wear than what people would like to see her in.”

Waiting in the wings
Vikram Phadnis was to direct the Stepmom remake, but gave up the project when Karan Johar bought the rights for the original. Vikram is currently working on the script for his next. Similarly, Manish Malhotra too has been preparing for his directorial debut over the last two years. However, the project is yet to take off.

Vidya resolves conflicts with designer Manish Malhotra

After three years of cold war between actress Vidya Balan and fashion designer Manish Malhotra, both have now ironed out their differences as Vidya attended Manish’s show at the ongoing Couture Week in Delhi. This time Vidya surprised all by turning up for Malhotra’s show at the event.

Vidya, who had publicly spoken against the designer after she was panned by critics for her look in the movie ‘Heyy Babyy’, had rubbed the leading designer in a wrong way.

Manish in his statement, over Vidya’s arrival, said, “I was very happy and it’s extremely sweet of her to come for my show. I was truly touched and this speaks for our film fraternity that we are always there for each other.”

Bitter spat
The tensions between the two took place after ‘Heyy Babyy’ when Vidya had openly criticized Malhotra for her look in the movie.

Not only she received criticism from the critics but Shahrukh Khan and Saif Ali Khan, also, gave her a special spoof award for bad dressing while hosting a popular Filmfare award function.

While answering to her comments, Manish said, “I m sorry to do this to a big star like Vidya, India’s answer to Paris Hilton with her fabulous carriage, impeccable dress sense and great knowledge of style.”

He further added, “How can she speak about fashion with her fantastic figure? Who is she?”

A new start
It seems that both Vidya and Manish are in no mood to discuss the past again. As Manish told the sources, “Let bygones be bygones. Whatever we said to and about each other is in the past.”

He even expressed his wish to work with Vidya again. “If we get a great offer, I’ll be glad to work with Vidya again,” he added.

The reports revealed that initially Vidya and Rani Mukherjee had gone to attend Sabyasachi’s show that kicked off the Couture Week.

Then Manish had invited the ladies for his show and they decided to stay back for his show.

Vidya’s present assignments
Reportedly, Vidya had opted out of Inder Kumar’s ‘Dhamaal 2′ because she was neither happy with her fee nor her role. It was heard that she was offered Rs 1.5 crore but the film makers and Vidya couldn’t agree on a price despite long discussions.

Currently, Vidya is wrapping up Rajkumar Gupta’s ‘No One Killed Jessica’ after delivering hits such as ‘Paa’ and ‘Ishqiya’. Rani is also featuring in ‘No One Killed Jessica’.

Vidya Balan dislikes Indian asexual clothing

vidya-balan2Does she mean to say Indian traditional attires lack femininity? Vidya Balan is shedding her behen- ji image and turning into a boho chic in P Balki’s Paa.

The actress is quoted as saying, “I don’t like Indian asexual clothing. I love outfits that look feminine…. My western look in Paa is fun and casually thrown together stuff – somewhat like I am in real life.” Vidya now finds the European way of dressing more comfortable, feminine as well as sensual. But the lady ought to remember that being boho will not suit her every time.

However, Vidya is happy about her new bohemian avatar and to work with a designer like Sabyasachi Mukherjee who has given her a new distinctive look for the film. She doesn’t have a good history with known fashion designers like Aki Narula and Manish Malhotra, who have tried their best to make her look fab, but inadvertently it turned out to be a drab.

In ‘Paa’, Vidya has donned two different kinds of looks as she is not only a college girl with a free-spirited attitude but later plays Abhishek Bachchan’s traditional wife, seen mainly in cotton sarees.

We know she is good in carrying traditional stuff. Let’s see how easily she sports a bohemian get-up which also doesn’t require her to be in shape.

CNN-IBN spotted a slim-and-trim Vidya Balan launching a skin care product in Mumbai on Saturday afternoon and the actress seems to have gone in for a wardrobe overhaul.

Sporting a red and black salwar kameez, the lady seemed far from the icon of fashion disasters that she once was.

Vidya will next be seen with the Bachchans in Pa and the actress seemed particularly impressed with the Big B’s look in the film.

“I just couldn’t believe my eyes. He just transforms with every character when he comes on screen. And yet he is Amitabh Bachchan. So the combination was amazing to watch as I shot with him,” she says.

After her disastrous look in Heyy Babyy – courtesy Manish Malhotra – Vidya has opted for Sabyasachi to style for her in her latest.

“Sabya has styled my look in Pa. It’s a very organic look. But organic or ayurvedic, I am all for it,” says she.

Let’s hope it’s a change for the better for Vidya, because the fashion police will be waiting for this one.

Vidya Balan and Aamir Khan

vidya-balan3Rumours are rippling through the hills of Mumbai suggesting that Yash Chopra himself has approached Vidya Balan to star opposite Aamir Khan in a love story that will hit the floors early next year aimed for a heavily-promoted Diwali release. It’s a sign of Vidya’s growing stature in the industry that she seems able to be walk effortlessly from a Bachchan project – Pa – into such a prominent project.

Meanwhile, Vidya has dropped her stylist Manish Malhotra for Sabayachi, the one the cast used for Pa. “Sabya has styled my look in Pa,” she explains, “It’s a very organic look. But organic or ayurvedic, I am all for it.”

With the shooting for Pa behind her, Vidya is now working with Naseeruddin Shah and Arshad Warsi on Ishqiya- a love triangle with a difference as Arshad plays Naseer’s nephew in the movie. For the first time on screen, Naseer has dyed his hair to fit the part. “That’s right,” he confirms, “I’m supposed to be this 40-year-old rake doing naughty things, like wooing the neighbourhood widow Vidya Balan. Giving me competition in the endeavour is my screen nephew Arshad Warsi. So my character has to really pull up his socks to vie for the lady’s attentions.”

The chapter of feud between Vidya Balan and designer Manish Malhotra is closed. The actress and the designer patched up recently.

Both had stopped talking to each other after Manish’s so-called “botched up” work of styling Vidya in movie Heyy Babyy . The movie did fairly well at the box office but Vidya was criticized for her dresses.

Then, the row continued as Vidya blamed Manish for giving her bad look. In fact, the lady has hit out at the designer on several occasions; the final blow came during the last year’s Filmfare Awards, when she mentioned Manish’s name on stage. That miffed Manish so much that the designer lashed at her some very blunt, sarcastic and stinging comments.

But the actress is in a forgiving mood; she decided to break the ice at a recent social function and asked Manish to forget about the past. According to the designer, they are friends now and he is happy that Vidya has clarified that whatever went wrong with ‘Heyy Babyy’ wasn’t his fault.

The designer, who has given distinctive look to actresses like Kajol and Rani Mukherjee , met with harsh criticism for styling up Vidya in ‘Heyy Babyy’.

As for now, the lady is playing safe with wardrobe and opting for all-Indian traditional look at many occasions and functions. And she can try Manish’s outfits now that their differences have been ironed out.

GOSS: Vidya wants a makeover!

August 1st, 2008

It seems like Vidya Balan is dead serious to shut up her detractors for good. The charming actress may have delivered considerable hits but she’s always managed to get the flak for her dressing sense.

Never has there been a time when she’s worn something and hasn’t been criticised for it. The last time Manish tried to dress her up for Heyy Babyy, the poor girl won a ‘Nariyal Award’ at the Filmfares. But it seems like Vidya has taken the criticism in the right spirit.

From what I am told, Vidya Balan has hired Sabina Khan to design her new look. This brave designer has taken over from Manish Malhotra.

Vidya Balan

Now Sabina, I don’t know what it feels to have a bad dress day (because I’ve never had one) but I must admit sweetie that I’d completely believe you if you say your working hard on it. Because if it’s Vidya you’re designing for, you will need a lot of hard work.

Bubbly Vidya adjudged worst dressed celebrity

June 17th, 2008

Mumbai, June 16: Although, she is yet to bag an award for her ‘so called’ appreciated performances but actress Vidya Balan surely tops the charts of a much dreaded poll – the one for the worst dressed celebrity.

The dusky beauty has been unanimously crowned her as the worst dressed celebrity by Bollywood’s top stylists.

And looks like Vidya did not have to work hard to earn this feared title as the lady as she had been all along making news for her infamous sense of style. Be it her on-screen dress style in ‘Heyy Baby’ or her self styled attire at the Filmfare awards, she had been consistently forced people to go booooo!

But all that’s wrong with her dress sense got highlighted when she faced staunch criticism from top designers for her attire in her latest movie Kismat Konnection. The angel faced actress was spotted wearing a bizarre outfit that seemed to be a combination of four different styles put together…in one word, DIASTER.

The outfit in question was a white shirt with a black jacket topped with a skirt and the eye catchy shiny black tights.

The attire was in fact so confusing that we could not hold back from asking her as to what’s the idea behind the dress – what’s her take? To which the she said, “ Clothes are meant to enhance my character in the film .Earlier such comments use to hurt me but now I have become so use to them that they don’t bother me any more.”

Hats off to this bubbly beauty as it’s only her and her alone who made Bollywood favourite tailor Manish Malhotra go wrong, when he designed for her. The designer who styled the actress in Sajid’s flick Heyy Baby had tried his best to give the actress a modern look experimenting with all kinds of western outfits. Even then Manish’s work was quite appreciated; Vidya was once again in the limelight for not carrying off the outfit with panache.

Commenting on the issue, Manish had said, “She is a very good actress but her wardrobe need a great boost. Even I went wrong with her in ‘Heyy Baby’. She can look good, she looked amazing in Parineeta. But she needs to a loose weight to look better.”

Well, we couldn’t have agreed more.
