Mallika steps in Vidya’s shoes

A few days ago, news began circulating that actress Vidya Balan had exited the sequel of Dhamaal, but hot on the heels of this, was the exciting news that had become a buzz in B-Town.

According to the rumour mill, sexy ‘oomph’ girl, Mallika Sherawat had signed to play Vidya’s part.

Following the success of Ishqiya and Paa Vidya had asked for a huge fee, which did not go down too well with director, Indra Kumar.

Before one could blink an eye, Mallika, who settled for a fee which was fair to both parties, was given the nod.

Vidya is on a perfection spree

Southern beauty Vidya Balan, who has won several accolades for her struggling mother act in Paa or the brutally seductive villager in Ishqiya, is known famously for getting under the skin of her character.
Taking her penchant for perfection a step further recently, Vidya Balan went all out to research the Victorian era for a photo shoot for a popular magazine.
To morph into the avatar of a glamorous Victorian inspired beauty, Vidya spent a considerable amount of time going about the details of the shoot and did her homework on the theme way before its schedule.
Says a source,“Vidya is a thorough professional. To prepare for the shoot she read up on some Victorian books and looked up a lot of pictures. She wanted to get the look just right but then again that’s the kind of perfectionist she is.”

Vidya resolves conflicts with designer Manish Malhotra

After three years of cold war between actress Vidya Balan and fashion designer Manish Malhotra, both have now ironed out their differences as Vidya attended Manish’s show at the ongoing Couture Week in Delhi. This time Vidya surprised all by turning up for Malhotra’s show at the event.

Vidya, who had publicly spoken against the designer after she was panned by critics for her look in the movie ‘Heyy Babyy’, had rubbed the leading designer in a wrong way.

Sherawat ‘replaces Balan in Dhamaal 2′

Mallika Sherawat has reportedly been cast as the female lead in Dhamaal 2.

Mid Day says that director Indra Kumar decided to cast the actress because first choice Vidya Balan was asking for too much money.

Sources close to Paa and Ishqiya star Balan have apparently said that she now earns around 10 and a half million rupees (around £150,000) per picture.

However, some reports have claimed that Balan, who starred in the original Dhamaal, walked out on the project because she was not happy with how her character was being developed.

Actor Vidya Balan has acted in two back-to-back movies that deal with the sensitive subject of sex that has been handled in two different ways.

In the case of Paa, she played a single mother who had premarital sex and had the courage to keep the baby rather than aborting it, and in Ishqiya, she plays a conniving woman used her seduction to take revenge. Vidya says if she feels convinced, as an actor, she would go even further bold on-screen.

Vidya Balan has rejected the chance to star in Dhamaal 2 because she wants more money, according to Mid Day.

The actress was apparently offered a contract by the film’s producers but walked out on the negotiations because her fee did not meet her expectations.

However, sources close to Balan have claimed that she rejected the offer because she did not like the way her character had been developed.

It has been rumoured that the star now earns around 10 and a half million rupees (around £150,000) per picture.

Vidya Balan is out of Inder Kumar’s next Dhamaal 2 . The buzz in the trade is that Vidya was neither too happy with the money she was being offered for her role, nor with the role per se. A source says, “Vidya asked for a price which she deserves after she catapulted to the top bracket of actors, post the success of Paa and Ishqiya . She asked for Rs 1.5 crore (approximately). Like any other actor would in her place, she too has hiked up her market price.”

The back-to-back success of Paa and Ishqiya have shifted focus from Vidya Balan’s weight, challenged sense of style and love life to the prodigal histrionic talent that she packs.

Understandably, Balan is both pleased and relieved.

“I think I was trying to be someone else and trying to fit into a mould which people were not accepting. I’m grateful to those criticisms about my weight, dressing sense because I realized that I was trying to forcefully do something. I realized I just have to be myself,” she told DNA.
