Bollywood’s A-list actresses, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Vidya Balan will be handing out backstage passes into the glitzy and glamourous world of the showbiz industry with their next releases titled; Heroine and The Dirty Picture.
However, Aish and director Madhur Bhandarkar are one step ahead with their film Heroine, which has already been launched at the Cannes Film Festival, and what better place to create awareness than at an international event? The film is said to be an entertaining, daring, emotional, shocking, glamorous, scandalous behind-the-scenes look at the reality of the showbiz world. The buzz is that the movie is based on the real life story of America’s pop and cultural icon, Marilyn Monroe, however the Heroine team begs to differ and says it’s a story of a Bollywood star.
Film marker Madhur Bhandarkar, who is known for his female orientated movies having previously worked with some of Bollywood’s top actresses, Tabu, Konkana Sen Sharama, Bipasha Basu and Priyanka Chopra, was asked why has he opted out for Aishwarya this time to be his lucky mascot? At the Cannes film festival he told the press, “Rai is a much-talked about actress internationally and I think she truly is a global star in every sense.”
On the other hand, director Milan Luthna has decided to cast the recent award winning actress, Vidya Balan in the movie, The Dirty Picture. Rumour has it that the movie will have elements of soft porn incorporated, however the director has reassured Vidya she will not be presented in a cheap manner, but shown in an aesthetically artistic and sensual manner with a touch of class.
In the meantime, Vidya has been asked to study the English films, Burlesque and Chicago – even the big stars in Bollywood have homework to do!
So which movie are you looking forward to watching?

Prithviraj’s career seems to be on an interesting turn. Ravanan might not have made the expected impact at the box-office, but Prithviraj’s performance in it was taken note of, by critics as well as the average viewers.
Now that Anwar is released and Thriller is too set to release shortly, the Tamil actor is focusing all attention on Urumi, the period flick directed by Santosh Sivan. Also starring Genelia, Tabu, Vidya Balan and Prabhu Deva, the film is set in the times when Vasco Da Gama landed in Kerala. The big-budget trilingual also has Prithviraj donning the role of a producer along with Santhosh Sivan and Shaji Natesan. Shoot for Urumi is currently on at the Malshej Ghats in Maharashtra and Prithviraj is expecting much out of it. The fact that he is thrilled about the project is evident in some of his tweets; ‘This is it, guys!! Urumi switching on today. The materialisation of a long cherished dream. We start schedule from 29th. Wish us luck!’
‘Here in Malshej Ghats. Urumi in full dream from tomorrow. U have to check out the art direction by Sunil Babu in this film. Breathtaking!! (Aug 28)’
‘Hats off to Shaji Natesan, my partner for the confidence he is showing in this mammoth investment by August Cinema! He is our catalyst! (Aug 28)’
‘And if there is a god in cinematography, his name has to be Santosh Sivan! He is magic with a camera in his hand! (Sept 5)’

Even as Vidya Balan completed the shooting of a special song in Santosh Sivan’s Urumi came the news that Tabu is also doing a dance number in the film. The Malayalam film is a period drama set in the 15th century and revolves around the killer of Vasco Da Gama. Prabhudeva and Genelia D’Souza are playing the lead roles.
“Vidya is performing an oracle number which is based on the traditional Mohiniattam dance form. She is a good dancer and was all set to perform the number after four days of rehearsals. But Vidya’s part extends beyond the dance number as she is a character in the film,” said Sivan, adding that well-known South dance director Ulhas has choreographed the sequence.
Sivan said that Tabu was also shooting for a song in the film. “Tabu is doing a number with Prabhudeva and actor Prithviraj that will be shot in an open ground. Ahmed Khan has choreographed this sequence,” said Sivan.

Santosh Sivan has started the shoot of his trilingual Urumi in the forest areas surrounding Malshej Ghat. The film has Prithviraj, Prabhu Deva and Genelia in the lead, with Deepak Dev providing music. Santosh has pulled off a coup by getting Tabu and Vidya Balan to do separate item songs.
He recently shot a rain song with Tabu, Prabhu Deva and Prithviraj. We hear that it was actually pouring cats and dogs on location in the forests of Malshej Ghat when he shot the song! Interestingly, a few months ago, Santosh shot in artificial rain for a song in Mani Ratnam’s Raavan.
Now, in pouring rain, he shot the song choreographed by Bollywood’s famous dance master Ahmed Khan. Prithviraj, who is also one of the producers of the film tweeted: “Santhosh is making Malshej look like another world as nature and the rains made it look terrific. We finished the song picturisation earlier than we thought, thanks to Ahmed Khan and others.”
Later, speaking to TOI from the location, Santosh said, “We are filming in a never-seen-before remote area near Malshej Ghat. It is quite hectic; the Tabu song is complete and choreographed by Ahmed Khan in a different way. The Vidya Balan song sequence is still in progress and we are also filming with Alex, who acted in Madraspattinam.” Meanwhile, the buzz is that Genelia — who plays a Portuguese princess — is learning horse riding and will be joining the unit later.

After Madhuri Dixit, Tabu and Amrita Rao, MF Husain has found a new muse. The 94–year-old artist has reportedly watched Ishqiya (2010) 12 times already — he had earlier seen Dixit’s Hum Aapke Hain Kaun…! (1994) 70 times—and is fida over the gorgeous Vidya Balan. He wants to paint her and wants her in his next directorial venture.
The actress admits that they have spoken and Husain has been extremely generous with his compliments. “I was so overwhelmed when I heard this, I remember reading about him painting Madhuri years ago. And a painting by Husain saab would immortalise me, though I don’t know how to react to the word ‘gorgeous’,” Balan laughs.
She admits that though she has been exposed to his art, she hasn’t seen his two earlier films, Gaja Gamini (2000) and Meenaxi—A Tale of Three Cities (2004). “But I will definitely watch both the films before we meet,” she asserts. “I’d love to work with him and I’m hoping we can get started on the movie by next year.”
Inspiring Sabrina
Meanwhile, Balan who is being felicitated at every award function for Paa or Ishqiya, has almost wrapped up No One Killed Jessica in which she is playing a character reportedly inspired by the late model’s sister Sabrina Lall. Lall, for 11 years, continued with her crusade for justice and was finally vindicated when the accused, Manu Sharma, was found guilty and got a life sentence.
Contrary to rumours, Balan says she hasn’t met Sabrina Lall yet. “She’s never visited the sets, I’d have known if she had, but she’s definitely the face of the Jessica Lall case,” Balan asserts. “Her fight has proved that you have to be the change you want to see in the world.”
In her own way, Balan points out, she too has fought to live and work on her terms. It wasn’t easy veering away from the
conventional stereotype and choosing to do films like Paa and Ishqiya. “But I defied the rules and today I am in a unique position where little kids address me as ‘Paa ki maa’ and young men see me as Krishna whose ‘gaalis’ are sexy,” she laughs.

Both hottie Katrina Kaif and the demure Vidya Balan are two gorgeous women of Bollywood planet riding high on the success their respective careers. While each is ascending the ladders of fame steadfast and hastily, both have hit the fancy of the renowned painter M. F. Hussain.
Yes! After immortalising Madhuri Dixit in his canvas, he is desirous of flicking his brush once more; this time to use his palette of colours to paint the charming temptress Katrina Kaif. Katrina has, hitherto, conquered so many male hearts that it’s no surprise that even the heart of the 90-plus man has been struck by the cupid’s arrow.
Her tremendous acting display in her latest box-office jolter Rajneeti has earned her a place in the good books of the iconic painter. It’s only ironic that her ex flame Salman Khan never got the chance to put her on a canvas (given the fact that Katty’s ex Partner has a profound penchant and passion for painting).
Hussain had also disclosed his longing to give colours to the portrait of Vidya Balan, however, his brush is still awaiting the beauties. Other beauties who have been canvassed by the legendary painter include:
1. Madhuri Dixit (the Dhak Dhak mania got over Hussain too)
2. Tabu (her poise and purity arrested his attention)
3. Urmila Matondkar (the sexy petite gal)
4. And Amrita Rao (the unearthly Indian beauty who created ripples with Vivaah)
